Ofcourse you would, well when playing games anyway, i've got a Nvidia Geforce 7400 go graphics.

I'd expect you would see major differences, possibly up to 2x better, although perhaps an 8 series would be more future proofed but pricey dx10 ect.. Tom's hardware charts should give you an idea...

Looks like an 7900gs is on par with the newer 8600gts, so if you're a Vista user I'd probably go for the newer card.

I would just get the 7900 to be honest.

I would probably go with the 8600gts, you should be able to find one for around £90 which isn't a lot of difference to the 7900gs.
It's fully dx10 and HD capable, both of which I beleive are lacking on the 7900gs.
Another option would be an X1950 Pro, arguably better than the 7900 and 8600gts, available for less money around £75, but no dx10 support.
I'd go for the 8600gts though

Ok, 8600gts sounds good, been reading reviews etc .. sounds good.
Just one n00b question .. whats PCI-E mean ? ...

Its the slot the card fits into on the motherboard - there is PCI-E and AGP
Here is an exaple of PCI-E (orange+blue) http://images.planetamd64.com/athildja/PF5_Images/Dual_x16_PCI-E.jpg
You'll need to make sure your board has one!!

im pretty sure i have AGP :? .. How would I check other than having to take off the side panel ? .. Would it say on the specs for the computer ?

You might be able to find out the model of the motherboard then look it up. Alternativley you can download software that will tell you e.e. Everest Ultimate.

To find out in Vista using the latest nvidia software which you should have installed already.
On the desktop, right click, choose Nvidia Control Panel, at the bottom left of the screen in the nvidia panel click the System Information button.
At the bottom of the list in the details panel you should see the "BUS" setting as either AGP (?x) or PCI Express (x?)

On Device Manager It Said It Was PCI Bus .. So I Guess PCI-E Then
Good Good :!: .. Will Most Prob Get The 8600gts then.

Not sure if that is correct. I know for a fact my Graphics Card is AGP, but it comes up as PCI bus 1 on device manager, best checking the way decanay suggested or getting a tool (I suggest Everest Free edition).
Just for the hell of it I added a little tut on how to get it!

No you can't, shame.. unless you want to change your main board as well? :P
I think for around £90 you should find the ATI X1950 Pro just about the best option, although won't be as good as PCI-E alternatives

I was looking at this card earlier:

And thought, would i see major differences between the 6800 ive got now, and the ATI Radeon X1950 which i may buy.

This site has a good set of comparisons against the 6800 Ultra -

If yours isn't an ultra then the differences will be far greater
